6 RECSAM News Vol. 52 - No. 1 Workshop on“Secondary School Science Teachers’Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge on Augmented Reality” A ONE-DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP on “Secondary School Science Teachers’ Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge on Augmented Reality” on 7 April 2021. The aim of this workshop was to expose participants to some effective approaches and pedagogies used in the STEM learning environment as well as the role of technology. The workshop was designed to equip STEM educators with the necessary skills in order to produce skilled workers in science and technology as demanded in various disciplines of work poses great obstacles. Through this workshop, our participants consisted of secondary science teachers gained understanding on the framework of Augmented Reality (AR) in STEM education; teaching and learning approaches using AR learning environment; and better understanding in using technology in AR to enhance students’ science, engineering and technological literacy, problem-solving skills and communication skills. A total of 37 (thirty-seven) participants participated in this workshop. The facilitator, Mr. AhmadAfandi Yusri from SK Bayan Lepas 2 demonstrated how to develop quizzes using an Augmented Reality mobile application called Metaverse. Participants were also exposed to using Augmented Reality applications readily available in Science as well as Physics, Chemistry and Biology found in secondary school text books. Workshop on“Improving Science Learning through Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE)” Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia addressed the need for a creative approach to investigation with reference to situations in everyday contexts, making the process of investigation a meaningful experience for students. The various hands-on activities modeled in the workshop also enabled the participants to understand the fundamentals and process of inquiry-based learning and introduces a practical approach of providing inquiry experiences in the classroom. Workshop participants were also exposed to the fundamentals of IBSE and were able to recognise activities that demonstrate principles of inquiry-based learning and apply the approaches in their science classrooms at the end of the two-day workshop. A total of 31 (thirty-one) participants participated in the workshop. ATRAININGWORKSHOP on “Improving Science Learning through Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE)” was held at RECSAM on 14 & 15 April 2021. Through this workshop, the facilitators who are the national trainers of IBSE, Dr. Koay Suan See from Sixth Form College of Haji Zainul Abidin Penang and Dr. Lay Ah Nam from the National STEM Centre, Workshop on“Data Analysis: SPSS for Beginners & Introduction to BasicWinsteps” A TRAINING WORKSHOP on “Data Analysis: SPSS for Beginners & Introduction to Basic Winsteps” was held at RECSAM on 30 April 2021. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Muhammad Faiz Abdul Kuthoose, Research Officer from the Research & Development Division that primarily focuses on basic statistical analysis using SPSS and Winsteps. The workshop was aimed to increase knowledge and requisite skills of participants on the use of SPSS and Winsteps for basic statistical analysis. Workshop participants were exposed to the basic practice of statistics by using SPSS Statistics, a statistical software program used for data management and data analysis and learn how to perform basic statistical analyses. The workshop also introduced participants to Winstep (Winsteps constructs Rasch measures from simple rectangular data sets, usually of persons and items). Workshop participants were also exposed to practical approaches in analysing data using these softwares with several data analysis examples and guided tutorial. Eight (8) participants, consists of staff from Research & Development and Training Programme Divisions joined the workshop.
