7 RECSAM News Vol. 52 - No. 1 RECSAM’s Health Corner Monthly Assembly and Chinese NewYear Celebration ON 26 APRIL 2021 , RECSAM launched its first Health Corner. The Corner is RECSAM’s most recent initiative in line with the settings approach to provide a healthy workplace. RECSAM’s Health Corner aims to inspire staff members to (i) take responsibility for their health and well-being; and (ii) to achieve and sustain a healthy and productive lifestyle. Dr. Shah Jahan bin Assanarkutty, Centre Director of RECSAM formally opened the Corner followed by a short briefing on the purpose and rationale of the Corner. During the launching ceremony, staff were able to utilise the services of the corner, including getting their blood pressure tested and measuring their body mass index (BMI) and body weight and height. Part of RECSAM’s commitment to creating a healthy workplace is making basic health equipment available for staff to self-monitor their risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, stroke, and providing access to information on preventing NCDs and promoting mental health. Addressing NCDs requires a lifestyle change, and since individuals in the workforce spend a significant amount of time in the workplace, creating a healthy workplace is vital to our well-being. The Corner is an example of how small changes to the office can have a big impact on the health and well-being of staff members. DURING the monthly assembly on 5 March 2021, RECSAM organised a Chinese New Year celebration gathering for all staff members. All Chinese colleagues were dressed in their best costumes and dished out oranges for wealth and good fortune.
