Rationale

The Digital Storytelling Contest is a part of the SEAMEO RECSAM’s agenda to understand the future need of education ecosystem in Southeast Asia from the young generation lens. This digital storytelling competition will be held virtually to reap as much participation from students across the SEA’s region. Through this competition, students will produce a short video capturing the imagination and visualisation of the learning ecosystem of their respective country. The competition does not just discover the hidden talents of students as creative storytellers using a digital format such as a camera and online screencast applications but also encourages them to become young futurists.

The SEAMEO RECSAM’s Training and Research Division is the organising committee for this event. This competition serves as two-pronged approach not just to discover the talents of students as creative storytellers using a digital format, but at the same time this competition provides the committee with evidences to understand the young generation imagination of future schools and how the learning activities would take place in future.

This contest is open for primary and secondary students in SEAMEO countries to showcase their talents in digital storytelling. As a digital platform to explore the students' imagination of the future Southeast Asia education ecosystem, the participants therefore should narrate how a future school will look like and operates, in which showcase the curriculum and learning activities took place by submitting their creative digital storytelling about the future. All the creative products that submitted will be referred as the ‘future artefacts. At SEAMEO RECSAM, we hope to engage the students as the futurist and crafted their imaginations to better feed the research and training activities in future.

The SEAMEO RECSAM aims to strengthen regional and local collaboration on curriculum and learning standards, assessment, and professional development for science and mathematics education to enhance competitiveness in the era of globalisation. This competition is funded by the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Center for Futuristic Studies (PMFCFS) and World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF).
