PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT CATEGORY

For primary and secondary school students, participation can either be individual or in group. If in group, the maximum member allowed is four(4) students only.

There are 4 level that comprises of paper and pencil test and hands-on STEM Challenge. Each of the level will test the students understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The content will covers most of science subjects; namely physical science, life science, social science, formal science and applied science. However, the level of content shall suits the age category.

Level 1 (Science) & Level 2 (Mathematics)

In this level, each students will be given an answer sheet. There will be 60 questions and students must answer all questions using the answer sheet. Each questions will be electronically displayed at the front of the hall. Each question will appear between 45 to 60 second (depending on the difficulty level) before moving to the next question. Students should write the answer immediately on the answer sheet before the next question appears. The questions will be a mix of multiple choice questions and subjective questions.

A 2-second glimpse of each question will be displayed before the session ends. All answer sheet will be collected by the Secretariat for markings. After collection of answer sheet, the answer will be displayed by the coordinator during the Answer Reveal session.

The winner of this category will be the one who gets the right answer the most.

Level 3 (STEM Challenge)

In this level, students will conduct the challenge individual or in groups (maximum of 4 per group) based on the registration. Each individual/group will be given a problem, a set of FREE tools, a Purchase Requisition Form (PR Form), a paper and a pencil. Students will be required to discuss and develop a device or a prototype that would solve the given problem.

If the group find that the FREE tools are insufficient, students may opt to make a "purchase" by bringing the PR Form to the SEASO Mart. All purchases will only use the PR Form issued by the Secretariat. Upon collection of additional materials from the SEASO Mart, the cashier will write the total purchase in the PR Form and return it back to the group. Please take note that NO REAL MONEY will be involved in this activity.

Once the student has completed the task, the student must surrender the device/prototype to the Checkpoint Area together with the PR Form. The officer at the Checkpoint Area will write down the exact time the device is delivered.

This is a preliminary STEM level before Level 4. The record of the fastest time of completion and the cost of the device will be used to determine winners for the next level activity.

Level 4 (Pitching Challenge)

In this level, students will conduct the challenge individual or in groups. Each individual/group will be called on the stage randomly to make a pitch on the device/prototype that has been developed in Level 3. The criteria of judging will be on the efficiency of the device/prototype (whether it solve the given problem), the students presentation skills and the scientific principle adopted.

The student(s) with the highest efficiency, well pitched and clear explanation  of the science principles wins.
